In recent months, there have been an upswing in robberies on Mexico buses. Unsuspecting passengers are approached by thugs who demand their money, cellphones and jewelry. A few days ago, a fed up passenger witnessed commuters on a bus route outside Mexico city get robbed by four young thieves. He took matters into his own hands and as the robbers left the bus, he opened fire and killed all four. The bodies were then dumped on the side of the road near Toluca and the vigilante savior was not reported to police.
Later, a witness came forth and described the vigilante shooter having calmly exited the bus after shooting the four suspects and grabbing the stolen bag full of goods, returning to the bus and giving back the stolen items to the victims. When police initially found the dead bodies on the side of the highway, they assumed it was gang or cartel related. After a bit of investigation, people began to talk and told the story of heroism by the armed passenger.
This is not the first such vigilante instant justice delivered at the hands of bus commuters. As more people carry smart phones and other valuables on buses, they have become an easy target in recent years by roaming thugs. Passengers have armed themselves and have defended their fellow passengers against the criminals.
So far prosecutors have not filed charges against the vigilante hero. Hopefully, he sends a clear message that blatant crime will not be tolerated and can even be a death sentence. What’s your opinion? Do you believe in vigilante justice or should the shooter be charged with murder?
